Pizza Oven Price Index: The Oven Barely Moves, the Accessories Never Stop

Every figure is from our own tracking history over 2026-07-23 to 2026-08-08, 10 snapshots, the same 134 products throughout. Changed is the share of products in that category whose price on the last check differed from the first. Basket is how much the category's total price moved.

Read the top and bottom rows together and the whole page is there. A thermometer is 7.3 times more likely to change price than a gas oven, and a pizza stone did not change price at all. The single largest, most considered, most expensive purchase on your list is the one with the least reason to wait, and the $25 impulse buy is the one with a live repricing algorithm attached to it.

The category basket moves are all tiny, which is the second half of the story. Thermometers changed price constantly but the category only got 4.16% cheaper in total; gas ovens barely changed price at all and the category drifted up 0.16%. Nothing meaningful happened to the market in 16 days. Plenty happened to individual listings. Those are different claims and most price-tracking coverage conflates them.

Four rules fall straight out of the table. They are the practical point of the whole study.

1. Buy the oven when you want the oven. With 89.7% of gas and multi-fuel ovens holding a flat price across 16 days and 10 checks, waiting has a near-zero expected payoff and a real cost: you are not making pizza. 2. Put the accessories on a watchlist instead. This is where the movement is. Three quarters of the thermometers and scales we track changed price in 16 days, and the category basket fell 4.16%, the largest fall of any bucket. An infrared thermometer is the one tool that meaningfully changes how your pizza turns out, and it is also the item most likely to be a different price tomorrow. 3. Do not wait on a stone or a steel. Ever. Zero of the five we track changed price across the entire window. The category is inert. If you need a baking steel or a cordierite stone, buy it today; see best pizza stones and steels and pizza stone vs steel for which one your oven wants.

4. If a price does move, act the same day. 17.9% of tracked products showed three or more distinct prices in just 10 checks, and one product produced 9 distinct prices in 10 checks. On a listing repricing that aggressively, "the price" is not a thing that exists for more than a day. There is no waiting for the bottom, because there is no bottom, only a distribution.

What none of this tells you is which oven to buy. Price stability is an argument for buying now, not an argument for buying a particular thing. The biggest single moves in this window look dramatic and mean much less than they appear. We are stating this plainly because the alternative is publishing a scary number and letting readers draw the wrong conclusion.

The largest rise was +62.3%, on a budget wood-fired oven that went from $76.99 to $124.99. The second and third largest were +50.2% on a $10 oven brush and +50.0% on a countertop electric oven that went from $199.99 to $299.99. None of these is category inflation. On Amazon the tracked figure is the buy-box price, and on a low-volume listing the buy box can belong to a single third-party seller. A move of that size almost always means one of three things: a seller repriced, an introductory promotion ended, or the buy box changed hands between sellers with different prices. A 62% jump on one listing tells you about that listing. It tells you nothing about what wood-fired ovens cost.

The evidence for that reading is in our own basket numbers. If ovens were genuinely inflating 50% to 60%, the gas and multi-fuel basket would not have moved +0.16% and the electric and indoor basket would not have moved -2.69%. The extremes and the aggregate disagree, and when they disagree the aggregate is describing the market and the extreme is describing one seller.

The same caution applies in the other direction. The largest fall was -32.8%, on a 55 lb bulk bag of Italian flour that went from $96.75 to $65.00. Bulk commodity listings reprice on freight and stock, not on demand for pizza ovens.

The ten largest increases between 2026-07-23 and 2026-08-08. Each product was re-verified through the Creators API on 2026-08-08 and links to the exact listing we tracked. Prices are the tracked snapshot values; live prices move, which is the entire point of this page.

Note what is missing from that list: the premium ovens. Not one Ooni, Gozney, Alfa, Solo Stove, or Breville listing appears among the ten largest rises or the ten largest falls. The brands with the most price discipline are the ones people actually cross-shop, which is consistent with the 10.3% change rate in the gas and multi-fuel bucket where those brands concentrate. The thermometer and scale bucket supplies three of the ten largest falls despite being only 8 of the 134 tracked products, which is exactly why it posted a 75.0% change rate and the biggest category basket fall at -4.16%. This is the finding we would most like other people to pick up, because it is a methodology point that applies to anyone tracking prices, not just pizza ovens.

4.5% of tracked products, 6 of 134, showed exactly the same price on day 1 and day 16 while moving in between. If you had checked once at the start and once at the end, which is what almost every price comparison does, you would have recorded those six products as "unchanged." They were not unchanged. They moved and came back.

Add them in and the picture changes: 45 products ended at a different price, 6 more moved and returned, so 51 products (38.1%) moved at some point while 83 (61.9%) never moved once across all 10 checks. The gap between "33.6% changed" and "38.1% moved" is entirely the hidden churn, and it is only visible because we sample repeatedly rather than twice.

At the extreme end, 17.9% of products produced three or more distinct prices in just 10 observations, and one product produced 9 distinct prices in 10 checks. That is a listing whose price is essentially a different number every time you look at it. For an item like that, a screenshot of a price is not evidence of anything.

The practical consequence for a buyer: when someone tells you an item is "normally $X and it is on sale now," ask how they know. A two-point comparison cannot distinguish a genuine markdown from a listing that has been oscillating all month.

Across all 134 tracked products the basket went from $46,155.75 to $46,089.97, a change of -0.14%. Sixteen days, 10 checks, a swing of 66 dollars on a 46 thousand dollar basket.

Set that against the headline change rate of 33.6% and the picture is clear: a third of tracked products changed price and the market as a whole went nowhere. Rises and falls were almost perfectly matched, 22 up against 23 down. Individual listings churn; the category does not.

This is the number to quote at anyone claiming pizza ovens are getting rapidly cheaper or rapidly more expensive right now. Over this window, in this sample, measured with our own history: they are not doing either. One caveat we want to state rather than bury: 16 days is short. This study is strong evidence about churn and stability, and it is not evidence about a seasonal trend. We will not claim a direction from a two-week window, and neither should anyone citing it.
